Navigate in the Explore (VR)¶
1. Controller layout¶
We currently support two VR devices with our applications, We also have an extensive explanation for the Pico Headsets.
Note
If we talk about a Grip button or Teleport button you can find them on the following images.
Meta Quest 2/3¶
- Teleport Button (Trigger button)
- Grab Button (Grip button)
Pico 4/4 Enterprise/Ultra¶
- Teleport Button (Trigger button)
- Grab Button (Grip button)
2. Interact with the main menu¶
The first thing you will see when opening the Explore application is a startscene (by default this is an elevator) and a few UI canvases.
You can Interact with a canvas by pointing to it with your virtual hand. The white line that originates from your pointer fingers will glow blue when it collides with something that is selectable. While you keep your line on that item you can press in your teleport/ select button (Trigger button) to select the button or element.
If you want to know how to join a session or customize your avatar with the UI canvas, you can select their perspective links.
3. Move around in the environment¶
There are two ways to move around in VR. You can physically move around in your boundary and jump around via our teleportation system.
Note
As your physical space is often limited and Workplaces can be huge virtual spaces we recommend to use teleportation as often as possible.
To start teleporting you do the following:
- start with pressing and holding your teleport button (Trigger button) A parabolic line will now be shown that flow to the ground with a circle that shows your destination.
- Move your controller physically to adjust the position of that circle.
- If the circle color changes to red it shows a position you cannot jump to.
- When you found the place you want to teleport to then you can release the teleport button and you will move to that position.
4. Interact with objects in the environment¶
There are a few interactive objects that can be interacted with in Explore. We go through them to show you how to interact with them.
Model on tables or pedestal¶
3D objects in the environment can be grabbed and held in your hand. To do this;
- hold out your hand close or in the 3D model.
- Press and hold the grab button (Grip Button)
- While holding the grab button the object will move along with your hand movement.
To release simple let go of the grab button.
Other users can take over the object your holding. they simply have to hold their hand close and grab the object.
Note
If a designer chooses he can disable interaction for 3d models. This is handy for big objects in the scene or objects that don't need any interaction.
Videoscreen¶
We have two kind of video screens. 2D on screen and the 360 where you can go into.
To get into the 360 globes you just need to grab the smaller or big globe to enter the scene. When you are ready to love the 360 environment you can grab the center globe to teleport back to the previous environment.
Webbrowser¶
The webbrowser is a 2D screen that connects to sites online. You can interact with it like you do with other 2D screens.
On the bottom left is a button that can be expanded. It wil reveal a bar where you can fill in a custom url (if enabled by designer), go backward , forward , reload the page. If Bookmarks where added you can find that icon on that bar. These are easy shortcuts you can visit if you press the buttons in the bookmark bar.
Information board¶
Information boards are smaller screens that can contain informative text, an image or a video. Some of the boards are collapsible into smaller icons. You can open these by touching the icon.
Scenes¶
To go to a new scene when you are into the Explore you can find them in two kind of types.
A globe that shows you the scene on a pedestal and a Bigger globe that is floating above the ground.
You can see what scene you will teleport to as it is shown in the globe. To move to that scene you need to grab the globe. Bring your hand into the globe and then grab it with the grab button (Grip Button). The visual on the globe will change, tell you that it is loading the scene. When the scene is loaded you will be placed in the scene and can explore to your heart's content.
To go back to the scene you started in ,we call this the lobby , there will be a globe next to the place where teleported to the scene and show a preview of the lobby. Grab the globe and you will return to the previous scene.
